3 Games Where He Scored 60 or More Points in a Game - Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard has been playing in the NBA since 2012, when he was drafted 6th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. He has played for the Blazers all his career and has become of the biggest stars in the NBA due to his league dominating scoring! Lillard has been one of the most consistent scorers in the league since he started playing, averaging over 20 points per season in all but his first season (2012-2013) and over 25 points per season for every season since 2015! He has featured among the top 10 scorers in the league every year since 2015, and along the way, Lillard has achieved some truly staggering numbers, including the rear feat of scoring 60 points in a game.

To put this achievement in context, 60 points have been scored only 75 times in the history of the NBA, by only 27 players. Only 6 players have scored more than 60 points in a game on more than one occasion, and Damian Lillard is among this elite club, having achieved the feat on 3 occasions! What makes Dame’s achievement even more exceptional is that he is only the second player in NBA history after the great Wilt Chamberlain to achieve 3 60-point games in one NBA season! So, yes, Damion Lillard will make it to the NBA history books, even if he retires tomorrow! But we suspect he will add a lot more to his legacy before hanging up his spikes! Let us take a look at these 3 games that Damian Lillard went berserk and utterly dominated on his way to 60-points!

Lillard joined the 60-point club for the first time on November 8, 2019, in a 115-119 loss against the Brooklyn Nets. Despite the loss, all the headlines were rightly about Damian Lillard’s exhilarating play! We knew it was going to be a special night for Lillard when he dropped an astonishing 26 points in the first half, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to close out the first half! The Blazers scored 49 points in this half, and the incredible Lillard scored 26 of these, which highlights how dominant he was for the Blazers! Lillard added another 18 points in the 3rd quarter taking his tally to 44 points! He was 14-for- 23 from the field, 6-for-12 from downtown, and 10-for-10 from the free-throw line; these numbers are exceptional in a full game of basketball, but Lillard was not satisfied and was focused on doing whatever it took to take his team to victory! We were anxious to see what he would do in the 4th quarter and how many points he would end up scoring! Lillard did not disappoint…. he dropped an additional 16 points in the 4th quarter, taking his game tally to a shocking 60-points! He did not miss a free throw in the entire game, going 15-for-15, 19-for-33 from the field, and 7-for-16 from the 3-point line. This was a scoring display for the ages, and this game showed how tenacious a scorer Lillard had become, but there was more to come!

Lillard was at it again just two months after doing it for the first time, when he dropped 61 points against the Golden State Warriors on January 20, 2020, in a 129-124 victory against the team from the Bay Area! Lillard shattered several records in this mind-boggling scoring display; one of the most significant was that it was a franchise scoring record for the Blazers and still is! This was a Martin Luther King Day scoring record in the NBA, and Lillard also became the first player in NBA history to drop 10-3pointers in a 60-point game, ending with 11- 3-pointers! Lillard was at his sensational best and was the inspiration behind the Blazers victory, scoring a clutch basket from downtown to tie the game with just 15 seconds to go sending the game into overtime! Lillard scored an astonishing 55% from the 3-point line, 17-of-37 from the field, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 7-assists in a display of basketball that will be remembered for a long time! This game showed everyone that Damian Lillard was not only a good scorer but one of the best the league has ever seen!

Dame was not done…… in the very same season; on August 11, 2020, he overpowered the Dallas Mavericks with another 61 -point display, leading his team to a 134-131 victory! This was his 3rd 60-point game of the season and the most important for his team. This display literally guaranteed the Blazers a playoff spot and drew admiration from fellow superstar Lebron James who called Lillard “the hottest guy in the bubble.” Lillard was relentless throughout the game, scoring an incredible 9-of-17 from downtown, knocking down all 18 free throws he attempted, and 17-of-32 from the field! Dame was a menace from all types of plays, including some sensational blow-by drives, short jumpers, and at the foul line. After scoring a clutch 3-pointer with just seconds to go, leading the Blazers to victory, Dame demanded some respect! He deserves all the respect that he is demanding because he is only the second player after the great Wilt Chamberlain to achieve 3 60-point games in one season! Lillard has already proven himself as a scoring great in the NBA, and we are excited to see if he will add to his 60-point game record in the upcoming season. I will be bold and say that he definitely will!
